Canon Abilities:

* Sharpshooter: Entirely possible, if not plausible that he was bred to be a sharpshooter, Prompto has a natural talent for having excellent aim. It's always been that way. It transfers over to video games.

* Tech Master: Prompto has a natural affinity for interacting with tech, specifically Gralean technology out of Niflheim. This allows him to know and master a wide variety of mechanical weapons using magitek. This, combined with the sharpshooter skill he has also allows him to pick up and use any gun in sight, whether he's practiced with it or not. He did have to learn the safest ways to do that, but the skills carry over.

Role Qualities/Attributes: He's definitely a fluffy pomeranian, with sharpened teeth, adorable ears and the floofiest tail.
Role Reasoning: Prompto is not a natural born leader. While he has come into his own and garnered significant respect from the hunting community, and those in Lestallum in the capacity of a soldier, he's not usually the guy making the plans. Noctis is, and was, the best thing that ever happened to him and he would follow and serve him to every end of Eos and beyond. On his own, he kind of drifts, not really sure where or how he fits into places. He's not the most confident person, and he's plagued with severe social anxiety in the most stressful of circumstances. He never considered a life where he made a choice and made his way in the world, for him, it's been all about living for another and he takes that vow very seriously.

What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?

Prompto was, during Noctis' pilgrimage to save the world, captured by Chancellor Ardyn Izunia and tortured, when he was twenty years old. During this time he was forced to confront his parentage and where he originally came from, something he'd been ignorant to. He likely understood he was from Niflheim, but he never would've guessed he was a clone of Verstael Besithia.

He was profoundly changed by this experienced. He was forced to take his first life, as he originally put it, confront the fact he'd actually killed hundreds by that point, wrestle with the knowledge that he was meant to be a mindless soldier and was subjected to being forced to endure his greatest fears. This left him a considerable mental wreck. He suffers from PTSD and nightmares, and is rather subdued compared to how cheerful he used to be. He's also significantly jumpier, and a lot less comfortable with even the most casual of contact. While he has not known peace since that day, it cannot all be attributed to that. Every day the outside world has brought a fresh dose of hell and Prompto is just coping as best he can until Noctis' eventual return.

In the aftermath, it's also made clear that Prompto has retreated from friendships and the pursuing of relationships after that point, likely due to the trauma he's experienced. He's faced with an existential crisis and depression he just can't shake - but then again his mental health was bad to begin with. This all exacerbated his previous issues.

What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?

The actual catalyst to his relationship with Noctis was a very brief contact with Lady Lunafreya. While he would never claim to have a relationship with her, without her push he would've never pursued a friendship with Noctis.

Noctis, by far, takes the crown in this category. Noctis was most of his firsts. First friend, first party, the guy he first drank with...they were thick as thieves. Before Noctis, Prompto was alone. He was grappling with the fact he was too anxious to talk to his peers and unloved by his parents and essentially he raised himself. Noctis made him want to improve himself and revamp his image. Noctis is his light. He never saw his station, not really. It's only after Noctis blossomed that he refers to him as his king - and he is. His one and only king too. Fate might have it out for them, but Prompto has cherished every single moment he's gotten with Noct and he believes he's the best thing to ever happen to him, now and forever.

A more minor, but impactful relationship that doesn't get enough attention is his relationship with the Marshal, Cor Leonis. Prompto did not grow up with proper role models, with his parents refusing to stay put for any length of time. Even though he was already grown up when he met the man, his gentle guidance and very harsh training was something he desperately needed in his life. Someone to give him encouragement and praise his accomplishments is something he values incredibly strongly.

What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story?

Canon is very vague about Prompto's role in the time between high school and when they depart when they're twenty on the road trip. There is discussion around whether or not Prompto is 'ready' to go on such and important tour of duty, protecting the crown prince and that's often interpreted as though he's being given a crash course for a couple of weeks before being sworn in as a Crownsguard.

I don't believe this is correct. There's no indication that Prompto ever had any other job, or any other ambition except to become a Crownsguard. He certainly could have, he could've gone into photography - but he didn't want to lose his best friend. I believe the debate was whether or not he was ready, not whether or not he should be trained. I think it's extremely likely that when they graduated was when he made his ambitions known, or was invited by Noctis to sign up. This would've been a natural separation point and Prompto would not have wanted that.

As for why this makes sense, Ignis began his training in 749, and was sworn in, in 752. It's likely Prompto was only two years into a three year program and Noctis wanted his swearing in to be pushed up so he could attend the wedding with him. This request was subsequently granted by Cor Leonis.

Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?

Prompto would've never guessed it, but he holds a very deeply entrenched grudge against Ardyn Izunia. He's always been a little on the meek side, and very forgiving. He was never treated that nicely in Lucis. Most people from Niflheim aren't, but he let all of that slide off his back. However, what Ardyn did was so damaging, he could never forgive him.

While he's not forgiving people, he's not that happy with the Six either. He's in a bit of a tough spot. He was never that devout, but it's difficult not to see what's before your eyes. He's seen the Astrals in the flesh and while he's crushed by Noctis' fate, at the same time he feels as though he has to be appropriately reverant, lest they strike him down. It's a very awkward place to be. His faith is somewhat shaken, but also somewhat bolstered by everything and their stupid divine plan. He won't forgive them for condemning Noct, nor for casting Eos in darkness and condemning vast amounts of innocents to die, but he will still pray to them for the best.
